Timepiece (The Christmas Box Trilogy #2)
I read The Christmas Box this past Christmas and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Sure, it was short, but its message was a true one. I didn't realize it was a series until several months later. So, I decided to try out the next book. Once again, I was not disappointed. I liked the second book, though, not quite as much as the first. One thing I really liked is the feeling of close to home, at least in a way. This book takes place in Salt Lake City in the early 1900's and it is so refreshing to read a
Though a very short read but more interesting than the first book in the series...4star.

A very simple read. Thought the ending was confusing and rushed. I was waiting for a finale that could tie this all together, but ended up stumped. I re-read the details and still have difficulty identifying who the bride is who received the timepiece... her father's the one giving it to her... and yet it is the daughter of the arsonist who comes to the house... oh, I was following along well until the last chapter.
Good prequel to the Christmas Box detailing David and Maryanne Parkin. Not really a holiday book like the last book. This was sad. Some memorable quotes: "The only promise of childhood is that it will end. And when it is gone, it is gone.""I cannot answer for the whole of human suffering. I can only speak from my experience. But I have found that my pain is instructive. That through it I become more than I would otherwise."
"Hate kills the heart. Even broken ones."It started sweet, but the ending left me with a heavy feeling. More than David and Mary Anne's love story, this is a tale about a parent's love, and how it transcends time. (If you're looking for a holiday read to brighten your spirits, this is not it.)
The lower score I gave this book is to indicate it is probably not my type of book as the first half was romance and the second half a tear jerker. We did enjoy it as I read it aloud to Russ on our way back from Saskatoon.I struggled to define the Gift that MaryAnne referred to. Page 298: "The gift Jenna had given me had been life That the very breath I had once given to her had come back to me in an infinite return of joy and life and meaning."
