Brian Wood continues an astounding run on the old school Star Wars universe. I have really enjoyed this series thus far. The dialouge is incredible and the book feels like a continuation of Star Wars: A New Hope. I can not wait to read the next volume. Mr. Wood the force is definitely with you.

The timeframe is after the destruction of the first Death Star in episode IV, despite their tremendous victory the forces of the rebellion are on the run and in danger of being wiped out. This is consistent with human history, where forces fighting the powerful armies of a government must flee and regroup after a victory. Yeah! Star Wars comics! Just started aaaaand...the character motivations just don't make sense (you know, your basic Brian Wood comic). But...yeah, Star Wars comic. So ready for Marvels take. They have some excellent creative teams lined up too.

This installment, while better than most attempts, still comes up short. While the design and trimmings are all there in the staging and color and such, the actual plot is hollow and the characters rehashed or flat and disconnected. The dialogue is either regurgitated from the movie or out of place entirely ("First blood"?!) Curiousity satisfied, I am ready to move on and give Jason Aaron his shot.

Decent story, although the ending has me a little worried about the direction the plot is taking. I'm still distracted by the fact that the character renditions don't look much like the actors from the movies (unlike the cover illustrations).

This volume of the Marvel Star Wars title isn't quite as strong as the previous - it seems to be juggling a few too many story threads at once; like Birra Seah, who goes from seeming prominence to literally running away from the greater story. And Leia has a one issue digression that, while telling an interesting story, does absolutely nothing to further the main plot. But aside from that, the story is entertaining, with action both on the ground and in space, and numerous plot threads

Too many plot threads, most of them being either forgettable or not leading anywhere. Using familiar characters between 2 of the original movies may seem like a good idea, except that it removes all tension, since we know exactly where this is going.
