Its difficult to write a review of a book like this. Theres so much the author has to say that ought to be noted, and theres so much I need to say about my reactions to it. Very briefly, its 1955 and Henrietta Snow -- known to everyone as Snowy -- is fifteen and a sophomore at a small-town New Hampshire high school. i loved this book when i was 12 or 13. it was my first "dirty" book.

Don't know what brought this book to mind today, but if had a flashback to reading this in secret because it was so racy. My mother caught me about halfway through and said , "I think that book is a little mature for you. But you are so far through it at this point, you might as well finish it." Thanks Mom! This and "AreYou There God, It's Me Margaret" shaped my adolescence.

I read this cheezy book when I was in grade school - I checked it out of the library actually. What is funny is that I distinctly remember references to "blow jobs" and "lipstick on [his] fly" and for the life of me couldn't figure out why a girl would be kissing a boy on the front of his pants or blowing on him! This has been on my list for years (Hairpin referral, I believe?) and I finally got a copy - great fun!There was something really sweet and cozy about The Cheerleader; I loved being in the classic 50s American high school atmosphere for a week. Based on the blurbs about the sequels, I probably won't invest the time in pursuing Snowy's story further, but this was a solid standalone.
