Too difficult and poetic for my taste.

Didn't realize when picking this up that this was contemporary despite being written by a famed sci-fi author, so I had to do some mental readjustments when I picked this up. Unfortunately, the way the author used flashbacks were confusing and made the plot of the story seem rather meandering and roundabout. I get that it's supposed to be a spiritual journey and all, but I find the whole "life is spiritual, but it isn't religious!" way of life rather shallow and I didn't find that this book

I give up at 20%. There are other books to enjoy instead of searching for a plot that never comes.

Haha, I thought it's a sci-fi when I saw the book! Took me almost 50 pages to get used to the idea that I should relax and just enjoy this character study, this measured observation of life that goes on after the most important things have already happened. Most important by all means: like, what else could happen after you walked the Moon?It's just... counting days and years without an idea on how to identify yourself 20 years after.I, honestly, was not super convinced with the path described.

Charming recollections of a middle-aged former astronaut about his life, live, childhood, friends and infinite beauty of the universe. I was waiting for a climax or a distinct denouement, but there was't any. None is needed though. The book is beautifully written.

As a Dan Simmons fan, I read everything that he publishes, including the lousy stuff like "Flashback.". But this little book is simply wonderful. And with the space shuttle program completed, there is a sense of nostalgia that rises to the surface when read today.
