Representaion Supposing Books Battle Angel Alita, Volume 09: Angel's Ascension (Battle Angel Alita / Gunnm #9)

Had a real blast reading again this cyberpunk manga after something like 20 years.
Alita, young girl in the body of a mechanical war machine, is essentially a sci-fi version of Collodi' Pinocchio fairy tale, and her tale is filled with love, death, deep emotions, action, gore, themes like man's fight to overcome karma's limits, funny references/easter eggs and much more.
And like 20 years ago the ending was so perfect (not unexpected at all if you know Pinocchio's ending) that left me sppechless and almost in tears.

Sadly later the author changed it to make a sequel series (Last Order), but it was so good and satisfactory that I'm afraid to read Yukito Kishiro's director's cut one and following recent adventures of the Battle Angel.

And professor Desty Nova, a deliciously evil version of Gene Wilder's Dr (Young) Frankenstein (his assistant Bazarlo is Marty Feldman's Igor!), is just the ultimate mad doctor villain ever.

Whole series.Wow! What a great conclusion to the series.
This goes someways to providing a good conclusion. The reveals happen quickly, without time to understand the impact on the rest of the world. It is a big reveal that seems to support the smaller stories that I have gone along. Once again, it does suffer from this odd exceptionalism that occurs in comics where there is only one person who can stop this... I would really like to see other tropes discussed. This gets a pass as it is still 1991 when this was written. Overall, I can see why this

This review is for Volumes 1 to 9.I became interested in reading the manga after watching the Alita: Battle Angel movie because the premise showed heaps of promise. This is definitely an action-packed read although the illustration is not exactly my type of art. I wanted to like this but it feels like the work is not polished. The manga pacing and execution totally threw me off. I found it hard to become grounded in the narrative and I felt like my bunch of whys were not answered satisfactorily.
So good
Wow, wow, and just wow!Admittedly it is hard to really dive into and express all I am thinking after completing this series of Battle Angel Alita. I laughed, I teared up a bit, and after reading this final installment have been left wanting more (and to go through those emotions again, and again)! A series I would reread another time (just for the fun of it), I would recommend that anyone give it a shot, whether you are a fan of science fiction or not, black and white illustrations or not,
